REVIEW:

A real dream-trio with trans-cultural roots, fantasy and vitality. It is unbelievable that the three musicians have played together only twice until now. Sounding of the saxophone player Anatoly Vapirov, the guitarist Enver Izmailov and the percussionist Kornel Horvath, which is absorbed in the free flow of improvisation this evening in the cellar of Markt Neun, comes so natural to them as if they have been playing together for years. Powerful and at the same time graceful, spiritual and not a mannered one.

Actually this is a long standing creative relation between the saxophonist from Bulgarian-Ukraine origin performing with convincing lyricism and creative power, the Uzbek of Tartar origin, filling with admiration by playing the guitar with two hands and the Hungarian kindling the imagination through hide, clay and wood percussion sparklers. They have encountered at various concert events and are playing now with the experience rooted in century-old cultural traditions, which get vital and through the process of mutual inspiration turn into an outgrowing the jazz improvised music.

Every graduating student at a jazz academy would be happy if he succeeded to do with his both hands the same as Enver Izmailov manages to ferret out of the strings with five fingers only. Sometimes the virtuoso of complex and innovative playing techniques uses simultaneously two guitars, which reveals not only his double ability but also his exceptional mastery. And when Kornel Horvath drums his free polyrhythms and waves them into the soprano saxophone of Anatoly Vapirov with modal and emotional lines, then comes the phenomenon which fits together the different cultures and makes you forget your own ego. Rarely the virtuosity has been bound in this manner with the ease and spontaneous performing - with harmonized and reasoned forms. But the most this music emanates is the warmth of the East.

Bert Noglik.
